With a population of over 1.3 crore, it has grabbed the first rank in this category, followed by Leh, Vijayawada, Keonjhar and Kakinada. The temple which is dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva is assigned to the mid-12th  century A.D. The name of the temple is derived from the Tarakeshwara form of Lord Shiva.
